Our beginner programs are designed for people with no prior rowing experience who want to learn the sport in a fun, supportive environment. You’ll start with Intro to Rowing sessions that teach the fundamentals (how the boat works, basic technique, and on‑water safety) so you can feel comfortable and confident on the water.
If you enjoy your introduction and want to continue learning, you can progress into Learn to Row programs where you’ll build skills and train regularly with a coach. All beginner programs are fully coached, and safety boats are always present during on‑water sessions.
This short introductory program is designed for individuals with no prior rowing experience. Participants are introduced to basic rowing technique, equipment handling, and on‑water safety during coached sessions on Ramsey Lake.
Intro sessions will be offered in June and will consist of two 1.5 hour coached sessions. Contact us at [email protected] prior to registering to schedule your sessions.
This program begins in July and is for participants who have completed Intro to Rowing and wish to continue developing their rowing skills. Rowers train with a coach multiple times per week, focusing on technique, boat handling, and safe on‑water practices. Participants in this program must always be accompanied by a coach or safety boat while on the water.
Practices are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:45am - 8:00am, with opportunities to row on Sunday mornings and Monday & Wednesday evenings depending on weather and coach boat availability.
This program is intended for athletes who completed Learn to Row 1 in the previous season. Participants continue to build technical skills and confidence on the water while rowing in a supervised environment. Coaching support and safety coverage are required for all sessions.
Practices are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday mornings at 5:20am - 6:30am, with opportunities to row on Sunday mornings and Monday & Wednesday evenings depending on weather and coach boat availability.
This program is open to para and adaptive rowers of all skill levels and experience. Participants receive on-water coaching throughout the season, typically from mid‑May to October, weather permitting. Sessions are held Sundays at 9:00 am.
New participants interested in this program are asked to contact [email protected] prior to registering.
This program is intended for experienced rowers who are new to Sudbury Rowing Club or returning after time away. Participants row independently and may access the water when a coach boat is available, allowing time to build familiarity with club equipment, procedures, and safety expectations. Eligibility for full recreational membership in a subsequent season is determined by the coach.
Boat access is managed through monthly boat allocation sign‑ups, with coach boat support typically available mornings Sunday through Friday, and Monday and Wednesday evenings.
